Here’s a Sellers Checklist: Five questions you should ask yourself before listing your house. The first question that I want you to ask yourself is, 1.) Do I know how much I owe on my mortgage? If you don’t know how much you owe on your mortgage, put the brakes on. You need to call your mortgage company or go online and look up the balance on your loan; 2.) Am I familiar with what it costs to sell a house?
Side Note: I did a video that you should watch and that video is called Selling House Closing Costs. It’ll help you understand the cost involved with selling your house if you live in Georgia. The third question on the sellers checklist is, 3.) Do I know if I qualify for another mortgage? Just because you’re in a house now doesn’t mean that you will automatically qualify for another mortgage, so don’t assume.
Things have probably changed since you purchased the house that you’re in right now. Your credit score has changed, your income has probably changed, and that means your ability to qualify for a loan has changed, but you won’t know unless you contact a lender.
Don’t be that person that lists your house and then after your house is under contract, you try to qualify for the next house only to discover that you don’t qualify or that you’re going to need more money. Trust me, you don’t want to be in that situation. That’s the whole point of this sellers checklist–to help you avoid mistakes like that.
All right, the fourth thing that I want you to ask yourself is, 4.) Where am I going to go when my house is sold? In other words, do you know where you want to live next? What county do you want to live in? What kind of house do you want to live in? That information will be very useful to your real estate agent. It will help the process of finding your next home go really quickly.
Now the fifth and final question that I want you to ask yourself on this checklist is, 5.) Do I know a reputable REALTOR®, not real estate agent, REALTOR®. There is a difference between a real estate agent and a REALTOR® but that’s not the topic today.
Be sure to choose someone who has your best interests at heart. Someone who doesn’t have “commission breath” and will make you a priority. It doesn’t matter if the person doesn’t have a whole lot of experience as long as the person is professional and very knowledgeable–that is what you want.
So that is it! Those are the five questions that I want you to ask yourself. Now let’s review them really quickly: 1.) Do I know how much money I owe on my mortgage?, 2.) Am I familiar with what it costs to sell a house?, 3.) Do I qualify for another mortgage? 4.), Where am I going to go once my house is sold? And finally, 5.) Do I know a reputable REALTOR®? And that is it. I hope that was helpful for you.
