Snellville

February 12, 2016 by Wanda Collins

With an overall  Niche grade of “A,” Snellville GA has a population of nearly 20,000 residents and is steadily growing. We think you’ll love living in Snellville!  Snellville is located in Gwinnett County, approximately 25 miles from northeast Atlanta and is one of the best places to live in Gwinnett County.

Not only is Snellville growing in population, it is also growing in the number of new businesses that have come and are still coming to the area.

Scenic Highway, the well-known thoroughfare that connects Snellville to Lawrenceville has been the site of a massive growth spurt for the past couple of years. The most recent addition at the time of writing this post was that of the Hilton Hotel.

Of course, the downside of all the growth is the amount of traffic that you run into on Scenic Highway. However, the city is doing its best to accommodate the flow of traffic with several road improvement projects already in the works!

But the influx of commercial development means residents of Snellville GA, such as myself, have no shortage of places to eat and shop. One of the best things about living in Snellville is the close proximity to literally EVERYTHING.

If you like being close to things like the dentist office, hospital, restaurants, movies, groceries, etc, you’ll love it here; however, be warned that there is not a whole lot in terms of entertainment/night life. You’ll have to venture to downtown Atlanta for that.

Another aspect of Snellville GA that those who have old souls will love is the abundance of older homes. While older homes do have charm, be warned that they can also mean more maintenance. And speaking of maintenance, your Snellville GA home has a good chance of being on septic rather than public sewer. Septic tanks aren’t necessarily a problem if they are well maintained but they are definitely an added expense.

Finally, depending on what side of the street you live on in Snellville (seriously), your school aged children will either attend the Snellville school cluster or the Grayson school cluster as there is a part of Snellville that borders Grayson.

Snellville Resident Reviews

Snellville has a variety of just about everything you could ask for in a suburb city. There’s lots of shopping outlets, retail stores, restaurants, bars/nightlife, and outdoor attractions. Stone Mountain Park is just a few miles from Snellville, which is a great place to visit whether it be to hike or have a picnic. For the most part, Snellville is a safe, family-friendly area with excellent pubic schools, parks and churches. This is defiantly a great area for employment since they have lots of restaurants, clothing stores, department stores, parks, schools and homes. This city also has some very nice neighborhoods and homes. Snellville should consider putting more apartment complexes in the city, as there’s very few. Snellville is a nice city to live in and everything is so convenient to get to! — Current Resident

“Snellville is a developing suburb in Georgia. The reason I say developing is due to the fact that every street you turn on there is construction underway sidewalks being built, roads widening, streets being repaved. Businesses are also being renovated as well as schools. The only drawbacks to these renovations are for prospective homeowners because the property value is rising. However, there is not a lot to do in terms of nightlife but Atlanta is only a 30-45 minute drive away. Although, there is an abundance of restaurants in the area and a few bars. As a final point, Snellville is flourishing and it would be best to get in now rather than later. — Current Resident
